About

p-funk 10Welcome to funkyparts.org. I’m your host Darryl Crosby along with some of my funky friends. On this site we will present you with information about one of America’s most exciting and dynamic musical forms. Not only will we highlight and spotlight artists and albums for your listening pleasure, we will give you the historical background of the funk. This site is for players although listeners are welcome too. A better understanding of the funk can only increase the listeners pleasure. This is not Wikipedia. Our content comes straight from the heart with a strong opinion formed from decades of experience playing, collecting, and listening to the funk.

We’ll cover not only the obvious funksters that you all know but those on the periphery, those that inspired the funk and those that just plain “stank”. Our primary purpose at Funkyparts is to give you in depth information that you may not get on other sites and to show the connections between the funk and other forms of African American music. We’ll start with the golden age of the 70s and early eighties into the rebirth, through sampling, in the 90s and on to the modern era. We’ll include lyrics, tablature, and other learning tools for you to get a good feel for how the funk is made.

As a special bonus we’ll also be including original material from local acts in the Northeast Ohio area. Music you’ve never heard before including tracks from our own band Crosadelic (ol’ school funk with a modern twist). What was given to us we now give back to you. So come on in, look around, and check back frequently for everything from artist bios, song lyrics, music reviews, original Crosadelica, and more.
